DPO in the eyes of the community

Residents of Gewane Woreda in Afar regional state  praised Development for Peace Organization/DPO/ in curbing the problems they have been facing related to Gender Based violence/GBV/.

Mrs. Fatuma Mehammed is one of those beneficiaries from the Gender based intervention service and said that she has been able to enjoy the contribution of DPO.

“Tangible results have been seen particularly in addressing the critical problem women are facing”

Besides, her peers have become aware of women right, the impact of early marriage, female genital mutilation and sanitation & hygiene among others.

According to Fatuma, women in the Woreda are still vulnerable for rape, abduction and face the problem of medical services.

Habib Mohammed DPO Protectin officer at Gewane Woreda for his part said his office has conducted lots of training so as to fill the gaps of justice experts, women & men on Gender issue in the woreda.

Accordingly, tangible results have been seen particularly in addressing the critical problem women are facing with regards to physical and psychosocial abasement he noted.

As part of benefiting women and children of Gewane Woreda, Development for Peace Organization has also launched a service named after “Child Friendly Space & Women Friendly Space” he said.

The service is aimed at creating conducive environment for women and children.

DPO is currently working in 5 kebels of Gewane Woreda.
