Development for Peace Organization (DPO) has initiated a comprehensive project to provide assistance to communities impacted by drought in the Borena zone of Oromia. The project, funded by EHF, aims to assist 5300 households across various sectors including Agriculture, Protection, WASH, and cash assistance in the Moyale and Dubuluk woredas.
The project commenced with WASH and Protection activities, with a special focus on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) prevention and awareness. In the WASH sector, a vital hand washing sanitation campaign was executed at IDP camps and schools in both woredas, emphasizing key messages related to hygiene and sanitation. Furthermore, the project is set to deliver additional WASH services to IDPs, which include the construction and rehabilitation of water points and latrines.
Regarding protection, DPO conducted consultation meetings with government sector offices and service providers to bolster coordination and improve referral pathways for GBV survivors. Additionally, frontline GBV service providers in the woredas received capacity building training.
The project is slated to continue providing support for the next six months, ensuring a sustained impact in the targeted communities.
