Development For Peace Organization (DPO) is an Ethiopian National Organization, established in Addis Ababa 2020 and the organization is officially registered in accordance with legislation on Agency for Civil Society Organization by the registration number of 5164. Our organization is legally registered to work in Ethiopia as a National NGO (Reg. 5164) and as INGO in South Sudan (Reg. 4178), Somalia (Reg. NGOD/Moifar0422/022) and Kenya (OP.218/051/22-400/12732). It is also under registration process in Sudan, Rwanda, Uganda, Zambia and Yemen. The organization is officially registered with mission to strive to meet the humanitarian and developmental needs of women, girls, children and other vulnerable communities, regardless of their background of all sorts.
Since 2020, DPO has continued to expand its reach and deepen its impact, touching the lives of more than 1.35 million people (266,800 households) affected by conflict and natural disasters. With a strong focus on vulnerable communities, DPO ensures that its programs are inclusive, people-centered, and responsive to the real needs of vulnerable groups. Guided by transparency, accountability, and inclusion, the organization works closely with partners & stakeholders. DPO works under the guiding theme “Protect, Develop, and Sustain,” which captures its holistic and interconnected approach. By protecting lives, supporting development, and promoting sustainability in an integrated way, DPO strengthens communities to recover, rebuild, and create lasting development – thereby ensuring the triple-nexus programming.
DPO’s strong geographic presence in Ethiopia enables timely, context-specific responses to crises while promoting inclusive development. Operating in the Afar, Amhara, Gambella, Oromia, Somali, and Tigray regions of Ethiopia, DPO has rapidly expanded its humanitarian and development footprint, delivering life-saving assistance and long-term recovery support across multiple sectors. DPO actively engages with regional clusters and coordination groups, contributing to harmonized actions that amplify collective impact.
DPO works to empower women and girls to achieve equality, dignity, and self-reliance. Led by five Board of Directors (5 women), DPO places women, girls, children, & other vulnerable communities at the heart of its mission & vision, ensuring their voices shape its programs & policies. Through our programs, we work towards strengthening women’s roles in their communities and nationwide.
